What’s the difference between saving and investing?

Saving is about keeping money safe. Investing is about trying to grow it.

Saving

When you save, your goal is stability.

Saving usually means:

  • low risk

  • easy access to your money

  • slow or minimal growth

Savings are useful for short-term needs and peace of mind.

Investing

When you invest, your goal is growth.

Investing usually means:

  • accepting ups and downs

  • waiting over time

  • taking some level of risk

Investments are used for longer-term goals.

Pou résumé

Saving keeps your money safe and ready when you need it. Investing, on the other hand, accepts some risk to aim for real growth over the long term (helping your money work harder for bigger aspirations).

If you’ve ever felt that investing is ‘for other people’, you’re not alone. That belief usually comes from misunderstanding whether investing is only for rich people.
